Bowling

I have been working on my Writing. I have been working very hard on it by adding detail and trying to use different words to describe what I do at 10 pin bowling.

I am proud of this writing as it is my personal best. I have added pictures into my writing and tried to make it interesting for the people reading it.
I use my Perseverance muscle all throw my writing by not giving up and used it all throw my tenpin bowling from the start and the end.

I hope you like my story.

Tenpin bowling

Whoosh goes my tenpin bowling ball down the lane. It is a really cool pink ball with black swirls all over it. It was made just for me as the man had to drill out the holes on the ball to match my fingers.

I really love going to play 10 pin bowling and I am in the kids league which is on a Monday night. I am practicing heaps so I can go to the NZ National Championships in Wellington next year.
The bowling alley has 14 wooden lanes that are really slippery with a black line on each lane that you can’t go past. At the end of each lane are 10 pins and you have to try and knock the pins down with a special ball. You get to have 2 turns each time it is your go.

You have to wear special bowling shoes so you can walk on the lanes. They look really funny and the ones I get always have cracks in them. It can be really noisy when there are lots of people playing as you can have 10 people playing on one lane at a time.

I had a really great score one time I went with my Mum. My mum said to not look up at the scoreboard because I lose focus as I have to think about what I am doing. I have to walk up 4 steps before I bowl the ball . On my third game I got 5 gutter balls which means the ball goes into the gutters which are on both sides of the lanes and you don't get any pins down. It is not good to get gutter balls and you need to get a high score to win the games. I got 2 spares and that means when you get some pins down on your first turn and all the rest down on your second turn. I got 2 strikes and this means you don’t miss any pins at all and get them all down on your first turn. I am so happy when this happens as it makes your score high. At the end of the third game my was score is 116.

We decided to have chips and toast and I took back our tray after the game. Next we went and got a printout from the counter to show my dad my score when we got home.  I placed my bowling ball in my room and when I went to bed I felt pleased with myself that I scored 116 because it is my highest score yet. My mum and dad were so proud of me.

These are photos my cool pink and black
bag and equipment like my ball, rag and spray that I use to clean my ball at the bowling and a folder to put my score sheets in.

My art at school

chose a distance  road art it all was just pastel to celebrate Matariki. I had to draw a light white triangle to make a outline of the road and so I noow where to drew the trees to the end of the point of the triangle. The trunk was a challenge to me because I had to get it the right size and the right height to get it looking like it is going away from me with the big trees at the front and the small ones at the back of the triangle.I used Light to dark or dark to light green for the trees and a dark brown for the trunks. The sky is light blue if it is dark blue you can not see it so light blue is the best. Now you do the the koru all blues and a white and also do the flax with red, Orange, yellow and a woodish brown. Now you put the Seven stars in the sky once that is finished you can do the road gold or yellow and do the outline and lines in the middle as wall. The last thing I did was the black for the road.

Drumming

Drumming
I have been learning to get better at my drumming when things are hard.
I am proud of my drumming  because it is my favourite thing to do it gets me moving and grooving.
Something that challenges me at drumming is when I get a new tricky sheet I have to practice and practice to get it right because Practice makes perfect. The learning muscle I am growing is my perseverance muscle.

Drumming is my most favourite thing to do. On a Tuesday I go to Taradale to have my lesson and my teachers name is Cameron Budge. I have learnt to hold the drum sticks in the right place - when I first started he put marks on the sticks so I knew where to put my hands.

I am learning a new piece at the moment and the beat was created by the popular singer Michael Jackson.

The hardest part is at the beginning when I have to drum with the drum sticks on the floor tom and snare at the same time.

I can tell you what a floor tom is, it is a drum that stands on 3 legs and the top is a clear skin.  This is what a floor tom looks like:
The snare is smaller and shorter than the Floor Tom
This is what a snare looks like:

It takes me 5 or 6 times at home practising to get the music sheet right and when I get it right I can get a new piece of music to practice. I hope to one day play in a rock band.

Matariki

Matariki
Matariki is the Maori name for a cluster of Stars which rises in Mid Winter. It is the start of a New Year for The Maori.

This is the cluster of the stars.

We celebrated Matariki at school on Wednesday this week - the 6th June. There were different activities like hand sewing, carving, cooking, flax weaving and mural painting. I chose to do the mural painting with Mrs Hill. It was so much fun.

There were 6 of us in the painting group with Mrs Hill. We had to design our mural and then paint it onto big sheets of wood.

 This is our group:
Ashley who designed our mural
Charlotte, Izzy, Beau, Chris
and me.

In this picture we all had our different pieces to paint.

I painted the whole river and helped Beau with Te Mata Peak.

I loved painting it and can't wait for it to go up outside the staff room at school.

Something that challenged me was painting the river challenge because I did not want to get blue paint in the koru.
I am proud of my learning because it took along time to paint it and we had to persevere and work together like a team.

MY ART

I have been learning art this year. I go to lessons every week and my teacher is Katie. I really love going and painting pictures that we can hang on our walls at home.

I wanted to paint a picture that would challenge me, so I chose to do a painting in a Van Gogh style. It was really hard as his style of painting uses lots of little strokes and has lots of different colours painted on top of each other.

This is my finished art work. I am so proud of how it looks. It took me 8 lessons to finish. I did it all by myself. Katie just showed me how to mix the colours and how to do different brush strokes.

This is the steps that I did my painting in. I hope you enjoy looking at my pictures.
Rosie

First I had to choose a canvas that I wanted to paint on. Then I had to outline in pencil the type of picture that I wanted to paint.

I started to paint my first layer of blues and greens.

Then I added the colours of the houses and added more layers of blues and greens.

Next I added yellow for my stars and moon. I also put more layers onto my houses.

The next step was to start painting the clouds. This part was hard as it was hard to get the right colour.

This picture is me doing last few details on my painting.

I am proud of...my I am poem because it is my personal best and it took a while to think about the I am.
I am…
Success Criteria
Use a thesaurus to choose the best vocabulary
Choose the best nouns for the poem
Choose the best adjectives to describe some nouns
Leave the reader thinking about your poem by sharing what it inside you

I am different
I wonder if I will ever be a policewoman
I hear lots of people talking  and chattering
I see all my friends all the time
I want to go a lot faster on the softball field
I am different
I pretend I am a mistletoe, apple and a rose
I feel glad that I’ve got my puppy Milly
I touch Milly’s soft pink blanket
I worry about my granddad every day and me at school
I cry when people die
I am different
I understand what my teachers say when they talk
I say good morning to mum every morning when I wake up
I dream of teddy bears and my family
I try to be the best I can be at everything
I hope I get better at tenpin bowling
I am different

ART

I have been learning to put the pieces together for my art and making them the right size and shape for a mask. There are so many colours  vilot(violet) blue, raspberry pink, butter yellow, chocolate brown and skin and I had to mix and make them all.
My initials are on my mask R and K. I have a hart because I love lots of things and my favrite (favourite) colouers(colours) are pink and blue.

I am proud of my art because of how it looks and me working quitly(quietly) by myself and solving my problems.
